Meet The Makers // Lulu Flowers & Toot Sweet Confectionery

“Thank you for bringing joy to my heart, beauty to the world and love to my life”

Tomorrow is the 14th of February, one of the soppiest, gushiest and romantic days of the year, although many will see it as a highly commercialised and over the top occasion. I however think its a little bit wonderful celebrating love, whether you have found it, lost it, waiting for it or dreaming of it, there is nothing better than the feeling of love, whatever age you are and whoever it’s with, it’s a magic bond and something to believe in and give you hope … especially when you are doing something with love and sharing it with others “where there is love, there is life”

A wonderful thing about this time of year is the excited faces of men and woman, boys and girls wanting to find that one little token just to say “I love you” and where better to find it then in a place where everything they do is made with love …

So I thought it would be nice to introduce you to a couple of lovely local folk that do just that and will be behind the chocolates and flowers that will be falling at your feet and front door over the next few days.

Lulu’s Flowers is owned and run by the very fabulous Joyce, she is the epitome of flower power. Like her flowers she is wild and free, utterly beautiful, makes you feel special and fills your day with smiles.

Tucked away on the approach into the main town with the backdrop of the castle you find yourself in a secret garden, that on these late winter grey days is a radiant and welcome burst of spring and sunshine.

Lulu’s is such a special shop full of the most beautiful scents, amazing pretty colours and so much warmth and laughter.

Teaming up with other local crafters to showcase and sell their work, you will also find handcrafted cards and prints by local collage artist Lyn Evans and this year see’s a blooming new relationship with local artisan baker Alison Jones of La Bonne Parisenne which means you can have the perfect romantic breakfast in bed with flowers and warm freshly baked croissants … (I know a pregnant gal who could think of nothing more wonderful Mr H!!!)

… and you know what also goes well with flowers …

… Chocolates!!

Toot Sweets Chocolate Emporium is run by Julia Wenlock … who to use her own words to describe her is “a poppet”, she is like everyone’s sister and full of smiles and a little mischief, she is also our regular suppler of salted caramel chocolates, dark chocolate truffles and hugs.

Previously based in the Shrewsbury Market hall and a much visited Saturday Stroll, Julia now works from home, taking personalised orders and delivering locally to Shrewsbury.

All of Julia’s chocolates are handmade with love and taste like it too.

She has done so incredibly well in the years since she went it alone and created her own childhood fantasy, not only becoming an award winning chocolatier, but also a massive part of the community, organising an annual Chocolate festival in aid of a local charity, she really is a “truly scrumptious”.

So before you get swept up in the negative hype of  Valentines Day being commercial festival, take a moment to think of hearts of the businesses that are behind it … and all the love that goes into it

Happy Valentines Day ♥
